“For me, the writing of a song and its electronic recreation are inseparable. The sound is everything. It’s the atmosphere that entices listeners into hearing the lyrics.”

“As a performer who can’t help but connect to the audience, I want my recordings to have that same connection. Maybe it’s an infectious and danceable energy or a quiet intimacy. But I have to connect.”

“I guess you could call me an ‘electronic troubadour.’ I play acoustic guitar, but I also use sound design with electronic textures and composing tools. I write story songs, but I love pop melodies and radio hits.”

“One of the joys of teaching is meeting passionate young musicians at that point in their development where you can still hear the influence of their heroes, but they are poised to make that glorious leap to an original sound.”

Producer

When Paul released his debut EP Dancin’ Room, music industry colleague Travis Rivers told him, “You’re really a producer at heart. That’s where your future is.” Since then, Paul has become widely respected as an award-winning music producer for corporate events, serving major clients through his production company Triple Z Music. In addition, he produces his own work and that of numerous independent artists.

Some notable studio projects:

Sandra Boynton – Philadelphia Chickens: Paul recorded Meryl Streep, Kevin Kline and other major stars for this bestselling book and platinum-selling CD. “Calmly creative, skillful, and endlessly good-natured, Paul is the pluperfect collaborator.” – Sandra Boynton: Author, Illustrator, Songwriter

The Bacon Brothers – Can’t Complain, Bacon Brothers Live, New Year’s Day: Paul co-produced with Michael Bacon. “Paul Guzzone is a brilliant music producer. On the first two CD’s, Paul was a bass player and vocalist. Now, his input is a critical part of our sound.” – Michael Bacon

Aztec Two-Step – Cause & Effect, Days of Horses: Paul produced two highly-praised albums by this iconic folk-rock duo. “Guzzone’s exceptionally sympathetic production [on Days of Horses] captures the very essence of acoustic guitar, mandolin, fiddle and bass playing.” – hi-fi+ Magazine

Performer

Paul’s 1980’s debut EP Dancin’ Room was greeted by critical raves and airplay on major East Coast rock stations. Decades later, after a long hiatus from personal projects, he released Chasing the Moon, 3 in 1: the collection, and the single “Light @the EOL” (“Light at the End of the Line”). Paul has also contributed his lofty vocal harmonies, solid bass work and high-energy stage presence to nationally known artists:

THE BACON BROTHERS

“My brother and I are starting a band. And you’re the bass player.”

A phone call from Michael Bacon began Paul’s on-going performing and recording relationship with the composer-songwriter and his brother, the actor-musician Kevin Bacon.

Concerts include tours of Japan and Europe and an ongoing schedule of shows around the U.S.

TV and radio appearances include The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and with Jay Leno, The Today Show, The View, Prairie Home Companion, The Howard Stern Show, and others.

Tom Rush

“Paul, thanks for trying to keep me on track, musically, at least, for all these years.”

Concerts included tours with this legendary folk artist during his 1980’s renaissance. Major highlights: Carnegie Hall; the Kennedy Center; and annual holiday shows at Boston’s Symphony Hall, featuring guest artists such as Joan Baez and Bonnie Raitt, for whom Paul often served as hoc musical director. A 2013 return to Symphony Hall celebrated Tom’s 50th year of music making.

TV and video appearances include Tom Rush at Symphony Hall – A New Year, 1983 (PBS); Tom Rush: No Regrets (documentary); CBS This Morning; and others.

Songwriter

Paul’s solo releases illustrate his range as a songwriter, from the rockin’ Dancin’ Room to the moody and ethereal Chasing the Moon and the eclectic 3 in 1: the collection. Yet, they all share common threads: solid song structure, a foundation in the pop-rock and acoustic tradition, and an underlying attention to ear-catching arrangements and sonically rich production.

Paul’s songs and co-writes have been placed in TV and film and recorded by other artists:

  • “Give You My Love,” co-written with and recorded by acoustic blues artist Ruthie Foster.
  • “493 Miles,” co-written with and recorded by Kevin Bacon and the Bacon Brothers.
  • “I Will Carry You” (Top 25 on the Billboard Dance Club Charts), recorded by Shara Strand and co-written with Mike Greenly.
  • “Everything Happens for a Reason,” translated and recorded by international artist Micheal Castaldo and co-written with Mike Greenly.
  • 2023 National Songwriter of the Year at Annapolis Songwriters Festival.

An award-winning composer for corporate events, Paul has created custom music and sound designs for national ad campaigns, product launches, and global events through his company Triple Z Music.

Paul’s latest project is The Mountains Are Burning, a full-length musical inspired by historical events, with book and lyrics by Mary Ellen Bernard.

Educator

Paul dove into teaching the course “Rock and Contemporary Culture” at Pace University, New York, more than 30 years ago as a last-minute replacement. Now a Senior Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Sands College of Performing Arts at Pace, he has shared his love of music with three generations of college students, earning the nickname “Dr. Rock” among his Bacon Brothers bandmates.

For 20 years Paul also taught about the business side of music and media in a second Pace course, “How the Entertainment Industry Works.” In addition, he teaches “Entrepreneurship in the Music Industry” at Lehman College (City University of New York).

With classical cellist Stephanie Winters, Paul created the interactive workshop Bach to the Future, which they presented for two seasons as part of Lincoln Center’s “Meet the Artist School Series.”

Paul also designed and taught The Recording Adventure Workshop, which provided teenagers with a hands-on introduction to songwriting and music recording. The program was featured on WNBC News and in Time Out New York Kids.
